Areas of Expertise
Are you preoccupied with fear, pain, insecurity, self-consciousness, confusion or anger? As your therapist, I can help you manage, transform, and even dissolve these negative, often irrational, emotions. Every client is unique, and my experience and training are broad, but the following lists some general areas of practice in which I’m most well-versed.
I love working with kids of all ages, but I’m particularly experienced with adolescents. The adolescent brain is very unique. As a therapist and a parent of two, I can help parents understand their children and move with them from conflict to cooperation. In working directly with teens, I can help them to raise their self-esteem and overcome the stigma often attached to them.
Anger is a human emotion. Violence is a behavior. Anger management is really the management of the effects of anger, or the acting out of behaviors.
Anxiety or Fears
Fears are part of being human, and fears can arise through a variety of channels. Sometimes external forces, such as ads and politics, even intentionally try to exploit our fears. But we can learn to recognize the source of these fears, and notice when we are being motivated by them. We can then learn to calm and soothe ourselves, more quickly return to a natural state of ease, and thereby experience more happiness, more often.
Statistics show that everyone experiences depression at some point in their lives. Depression may be triggered by loss, separation, and various other life events. And one cause of depression can be our inability to express our emotions towards these events in a healthy way. Compassion is one of the keys to alleviating depression, and one of the foundations of my therapeutic practice.
Are you keeping your job because you feel lucky to have one in the current job market? Perhaps you love your job, but relationships with your co-workers, or the politics of the workplace are more challenging than the work. My extensive work experience in a variety of fields and job settings helps me to understand the challenges you face. The wealth of knowledge I’ve gained through my training and practice allows me to help you meet those challenges, develop satisfying working relationships, and better enjoy your work.
Fifteen years of experience in LAUSD schools, supervising MFT interns, teaching parenting, and providing individual therapy to children and their families, has enlightened me to some innovative and proven methods of working with ADHD.
